Every year I have taken my four children wild blueberry picking at a special place dear to my heart, Lake Minnewaska. I have grown up hiking this preserve and it's wonderful to share it with my family. We hike to the waterfall, then to pick Wild blueberries, huckleberries, and wild black raspberries if you time it just right. we all fill a quart container, and pick in a beautiful field of low lying blueberry brush, and large blueberry, huckleberry bushes that grow intertwined with one another. After picking and eating in the sun, fingers and lips stained with juice from the berries, we head to the lake to take a swim. Cool and clean from our swim we hike to a wonderful precipice above the lake, a perch so fitting for a picnic lunch. We eat, talk, and spend wonderful time together. We end our day at the lake with a walk to the boat launch to skip some stones. Upon our return home, we make homemade berry ice-cream, and scones! Simply to die for! But for me the best part is the day we share, the memories we make, and the special time we have all enjoyed together.
